Plan from Petronell-Carnuntum

The territory of Petronell-Carnuntum has historical importance, since Carnuntum was a Roman legion town. The ancient city of Carnuntum covered an area of about 10km² in today’s municipalities of Petronell-Carnuntum and Bad Deutsch-Altenburg. Situated at the crossroads of the Amber Road and the Limes Road, about 50,000 people lived in the Colonia Septimia Aurelia Antoniniana Carnuntum in its heyday in the 3rd century AD. Carnuntum, the capital of the Roman province Upper Pannonia, extended over the present-day areas of Petronell-Carnuntum and Bad Deutsch-Altenburg. The impressive witnesses of the former civilian city and military camp can be seen today in the Archaeological Park Carnuntum.

The original stone can be seen in the Federal state museum of Lower Austria.

Infos about the volunteer fire-brigade Petronell-Carnuntum

Our current volunteer fire-brigade consists of 90 members. We are a section of the fire-brigade of Hainburg/D. and part of the district commander staff of Bruck/Leitha (there are 21 in the federal country of Lower Austria).
We own four fire engine vehicles, a commander car, a personnel carrier car, a small fire engine car and a pumping truck with the amount of 2000l water.

After the model of the city Hainburg/D., the volunteer fire-brigade was created on July 8th 1877. The statutes which were prepared by the teacher Josef Schwarz were approved on 22 August 1877 of the “K.K. NÖ Stadthalterei”.
The first fire-brigade captain was Josef Schauer. On September 18th, 1877 the first hand-pump could be bought in Vienna.

After founding the fire-brigade in the year 1877 the technology in the fire-brigade progressed rapidly. This was a necessary fact, because due to the building method of the houses at that time, the fires meant a large danger. In the summer of 1889 many fire outbreaks created fear. Some fires had done large damage, which was due to the design of the houses at that time.

The syringe mentioned first worked with the fire in corroding well, but it was replaced by a fire-engine in the year 1919. In the year 1908 the fire-brigade Petronell got its own flag, which is used until today with solemn disengaging.

During the first world war (1914-1918) the crew numbers got smaller, since the majority of young men had so serve for their country. Nowadays the members of the brigade are alarmed by means of pagers or siren. In former times this happened by means of a bugle call or by ring the fire bells one called. With the steadily increasing numbers of automobiles the spectrum of technical employments had to be extended. Despite war-economical bottlenecks the fire-brigade of Petronell got a force syringe new portable engine. Carpentry Weber had its own air foam syringe for their security.

After the war the fire-brigade was again built up and some acquisitions were transacted. A high point was surely a new light pump vehicle, the mark OPEL lightning, affectionately called Crisu. This vehicle was in the year 1977 the only vehicle of the fire-brigade Petronell.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary a 2000l Pumper of the company Rosenbauer was purchased. In the year 1988 a small pump vehicle followed it. Naturally innovations, like in the year 1964, a radio communication system or new respirators, were purchased again.  Further technical equipment like a full man equipment and a new supplying vehicle were bought in the following years. A new 2000l water Pumper vehicle was bought in the year 1999. This new one substituted the old Pumper car and a new generation of fire brigade cars has started. The car includes 2000l water and all necessary tools for fire-fighting. In the new pumper there are also technical tools included (for technical insets).

The fire-brigade Petronell starts to build a new fire department House, it was finished in the year 2005.
